Paying your fees

If you have a student loan, or have received a bursary or award, or if you are funded by an external sponsor, you will either pay a contribution towards your tuition fees, or nothing at all.

If you’re self-financing, you can find more information here.

When can I do it?

Whatever your situation, you can pay tuition fees online (if you have an amount to pay) and you can opt to do this before you arrive. You will be notified when the online registration process is open.

Here’s how:

How do I do it?

You, your parents or guardian can pay your tuition fees by credit/debit card - but this is only available at the time at which you are due to register. For example, September registrants can pay online between the 1 and 30 September, January registrants can pay online between the 1 and 30 January. This can be done online during the Registration process only, or in person at the Student Services Centre, or at one of the registration venues (September only). The University accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Maestro card.

There are a number of ways to pay your tuition fees - including bank transfers and GlobalPay for international students. For more information please go to Student Support.

Undergraduates with a tuition fee loan from Student Finance England, Wales, Northern Ireland or the Student Awards Agency for Scotland:

If you are unable to complete step 10 of registration and are receiving funding from Student Finance, please send a copy of the page entitled 'University or College Payment Advice' to:

Address: Student Services Centre, The University of Manchester, Burlington Street, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9PL

Postgraduates who intend to pay tuition fees with a Postgraduate master's or doctoral loan must follow a slightly different process to pay fees.

  1. Complete steps 1-9 of online registration as normal.
  2. Step 10 is the payment of your tuition fees. If you plan to use your Postgraduate Loan to pay your tuition fees then you will not be able to complete this step online.
  3. Instead you must visit the Student Services Centre (open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).
  4. When you arrive, you will be asked to complete a Direct Debit mandate for the second and third instalments of your tuition fees. At the same time you will be issued with your student ID card.
  5. We will then confirm your registration to the Student Loans Company (SLC), who will release the first instalment of your Postgraduate loan directly to you within five working days.
  6. Once you receive the first instalment of your loan you must arrange to pay the first instalment of your tuition fees to the University as soon as possible, and no later than the end of your registration month.
  7. Do this online by logging back into the registration portlet and complete payment online. If you cannot complete payment online you will need to visit the Student Services Centre.
  8. Please note you will not be fully registered until you pay at least the first instalment of your tuition fees and set up a Direct Debit for the remainder or pay in full. Failure to do so by the end of your registration month will result in you incurring a late penalty charge of £200.
  9. The second and third instalments of your Postgraduate Loan will be released directly to you by the Student Loan Company to coincide with the Direct Debit for your remaining tuition fees. The Direct Debit dates will be sent to you before we collect.
