Starting your Integrated Foundation Year
As always our aim on the Foundation Year is to give you the same student experience as any other undergraduate at The University of Manchester.
By adopting the same approach to teaching and assessment as the other Departments in the Faculty, even in this unusual year, we aim to give you the best possible preparation for progressing to first year in September 2021.
In Foundation Studies we are planning to offer as much small group teaching and support on campus as we safely can (in accordance with the best health guidance at the time). The core of our teaching will be based around a blended approach, designed to reflect the way our students like to learn and to deliver a high-quality, engaging learning experience. We’re in the process of adapting our timetables and teaching methods to achieve this and we will be utilising Blackboard as our online learning platform, supported by Microsoft Teams and Zoom to enable our teaching.
Our academics are preparing lecture content in a variety of forms such as videos, podcasts and presentations and ensuring the course content will be delivered to you in manageable sections. We know your interactions with our academics and other students on the course form an incredibly important component of your learning so we will be using a variety of methods to facilitate this, including the use of online tools such as discussion boards, as well as on-campus meetings where possible.
To provide you with targeted support we will monitor your engagement and assess your progress regularly using online tests and quizzes. Coursework submission will be online, as is currently the case in many of our modules. The Foundation Studies student support team will be in regular contact with you to help guide your learning, as well as being your first point of contact.
