Welcome message from the Head of School

My name is Professor Kay Marshall and I have the privilege of being the Head of the School of Health Sciences in which your home Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work sits. The University is constituted of nine Schools spread across three Faculties and, of course, Health Sciences is the best School!

Our mission is to improve health through our research and teaching, and this means doing and delivering world-class research and teaching. To make a difference and achieve our goals, we need great staff and students – so I am delighted that you have chosen to study with us and I hope that when you gain your qualification, you will go out into the world and improve the health of the people you are caring for.

Research-driven teaching is important in pushing our practise as healthcare professionals forward, as well as helping us solve healthcare problems and challenges. The quality and breadth of the research in your Division is outstanding and is reflected by Nursing at The University of Manchester being ranked 5th in the world in the QS World Rankings 2021.

I do hope you have an excellent learning experience at The University of Manchester, and that you enjoy your time with us and make the most of everything the University and city has to offer. So a very warm welcome to our community and we are all looking forward to seeing you on campus in the near future.

With best wishes,

Kay Marshall
Vice-Dean, Head of the School of Health Sciences
