Essential pre-arrival information

Things to consider before you start the BSc Speech and Language Therapy course.

Occupational Health clearance

Prior to arrival, an Occupational Health questionnaire must be completed to enable health clearance on to the course.

You should have been advised during the application process that you are required to undergo Occupational Health clearance. A link to an online questionnaire will have been emailed to you by the Admissions team.

You should return the health questionnaire by email as soon as possible to the University Occupational Health Service to be assessed.

Your results will be logged before placement starts, and any outstanding appointments will be followed up.

DBS clearance

You will need to complete a DBS check. Instructions on how to do this will come from Admissions. Please ensure you read those instructions carefully and complete the required actions as soon as possible.

We would normally meet with you to carry out an ID check and submit your electronic application. However, this year, you will be required to take your ID to be checked at a UK Post Office (at a cost of £11).

During Semester 1, we will meet with you, check your certificate, and log the results before the start of your first placement.

You are also required to subscribe to the DBS Update Service (at a cost of £13 per year). You should have received more information about this from Admissions during the application process.

This is a requirement for all students on this professional programme. You will be unable to attend clinical placement without a DBS check.

Ordering your uniform

You will require a polo t-shirt as part of your programme of study. We will provide this for you and you do not need to pay.

As we order from an external supplier, we need to ensure we have an adequate supply of all sizes. You must complete a survey to tell us the size you require: Uniform survey.
