The full timetable of Welcome week will also be listed on the AMBS Undergraduate Handbook.
In addition to your programme timetable, there will be University-wide Welcome activities as well as Students' Union events to help you meet people and settle into our community. There can be a lot to think about and do before you arrive, but we’re here to help you get organised. Before starting your course, visit the Get Ready pages to find out about registering as a student, and what other things you need to do and complete in order to start at Manchester.
You can also view a list of steps that AMBS encourages you to take before starting your course.
The AMBS Undergraduate Handbook is the main source of information about your programme, studies and available support throughout your degree.
We recommend saving the online handbook as a favourite, or adding it to your bookmarks to give you easy access whenever you need it.
At The University of Manchester, you will have the opportunity to engage with a number of groups and organisations to make your transition to University more enjoyable.
Find out more about some of these opportunities below.
- Join our student societies for the opportunity to make friends, try something new or develop existing interests and hobbies. With over 400 Students' Union societies on offer and everything from knitting to scuba diving, you’re sure to find the right fit. You can even try them out before you commit with the SU’s ‘Give it a go’ programme. And if you’ve got an idea for a group that doesn’t exist yet, you can get help to create your own.
- AMBS students also have our own AMBS student societies and sporting teams. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the student societies during Welcome at the AMBS Student Fair.
- You will be assigned a pair of peer mentors during the Welcome period. These mentors are second, third or final year students who have first-hand knowledge of the 'Freshers' experience. There may be things you feel more comfortable discussing with fellow students rather than University staff, and this is why peer mentors are extremely beneficial. We would be able to help you settle as smoothly as possible into university life here at the University of Manchester, on both a social and academic level.
- You will be invited to take the Sustainability Challenge during the Welcome period. Taking part in this and other scheduled activities will make you eligible for the Stellify Award.
- Why not test Academic English workshops in taster sessions during Welcome? You can also sign up for free workshops at any point during your studies.
