    During Welcome week, you will be invited to attend some events for your programme. These sessions are a great opportunity for you to get to know the lecturers who will be teaching you during your time at Manchester, to meet your peers and to get to know the opportunities that AMBS has to offer.

    Preparing to start your course

    Before starting your course, visit the welcome pages, where there are a few practical things we need you to complete in your first few weeks to get things started.

    Your course and studies

    The AMBS Undergraduate Handbook is one of the main sources of information about your programme, studies and available support throughout your degree. 

    We recommend saving the handbook as a favourite, or adding it to your bookmarks, to give you easy access whenever you need it. 

    Settling in

    At The University of Manchester, students have the opportunity to engage with a number of groups and organisations that should make the transition to University more enjoyable. 

    Find out more about just some of these opportunities below. 

    • Student societies are student groupings based on your interests. It can be whatever: there are already Student Societies on board games, Disney, magic, flight simulation, sports or anime. AMBS students have also a host of their own societies.
    • You’ll be assigned a pair of peer mentors during the welcome period. These are more senior AMBS students who can help you with practical questions about settling into your course and life in Manchester.
    • You will be invited to take the Sustainability Challenge during the welcome period. Taking part in this and other scheduled activities will make you eligible for the Stellify Award
    • Why not test Academic English workshops in taster sessions during the welcome week? Regardless of whether you do, you can sign up for free workshops at any point during your studies.

    If you have any further questions, up-to-date information is available on the applicants and offer-holders pages, while there are also information pages for current students

    • Programme Support - AMBS Undergraduate Programmes team will be your first point of contact for most queries, and they can point you in the right direction. The team’s main role is to guide you through general programme-related queries, such as course unit selection and timetabling but they can signpost you to the most relevant team if necessary. You will meet the team during your programme welcome. You can contact the team at undergrad.ambs@manchester.ac.uk.
    • Pastoral support - We have a dedicated Student Service, Support and Development team who will be introduced to you during the welcome week. They will be there to help you throughout your studies in matters such as DASS (Disability Advisory and Support Service) registration to help access the support you need and in other wellbeing matters regarding physical or mental health. You can also speak to them about any academic or personal issues you are facing.
