Information for new Chemistry undergraduate students

Congratulations on securing your place at The University of Manchester! We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to the Department. Here you will find all the information you need to get started at the University, including all of the available events happening over Welcome.

All these sessions are mandatory and will take place online.

Week 1 - week commencing 21 September

Your induction session was on Monday 21 September, but don't worry if you missed it - all sessions are being recorded so you can watch it back at your convenience in your programme's Blackboard area.

Week 2 - week commencing 28 September

During this week there will be several events that you will need to attend as a new undergraduate student.

  • Getting the best out of your studies talk – Dr Alan Brisdon and Dr Nick Wiese, a brief introduction to Blackboard, accessing My Manchester and blended Learning. Dr Nick Weise will provide an introduction to PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions).
  • Mathematics diagnostic exercise available in Blackboard module MATH19641 on the 29 September.
Loading
  • CHEM10600 LAB practical talk by Dr Peter Quayle, an introduction to labs and how the set-up will be for semester 1 of this year.
  • Meet your Academic Advisor/Personal Tutor, a session where you can meet your personal tutor and fellow students within your tutor group.
  • Meet the Chemistry Society, an introduction to ChemSoc, followed by a social activity.

Personal timetable of events

Once you have activated your account and confirmed your attendance you will be able to gain access to the Chemistry Blackboard UG Virtual Common Room where you will locate the full Welcome and Induction Timetable for the w/c 28 September 2020. You will also receive a copy of the Welcome and Induction timetable in an email.
