Peer mentoring

Peer mentoring is a support network for medical students to help you settle into studying medicine and life at the University.

Meeting your peer mentors

We understand that starting university means you have lots of questions. It is not always possible for Foundation Year students to have a Peer Mentor who has been part of the Foundation Year Programme themselves.

During the Foundation Year Induction week (w/c 18 September), you may get a chance to meet your peer mentors. You will also get a chance to meet former Foundation Year students who have progressed onto the 5-year Medicine or Dentistry courses, in an informal networking environment during that week.

International mentors

If you are an international student or a student joining us from the EU, please read about how our International mentors can help and advise you:

We will hold an event at the University on Friday 22 September to give you the chance to meet other international students in Welcome Week. If you would like to attend, please use the form below to sign up by Friday 8 September.

Mature mentors

You may be slightly older than your peers when starting the course; you may have already completed a first degree or taken time out between leaving school and starting at university.

Read about how our mature mentors can help and advise you during your first year studying medicine:

We will hold an event at the University on Friday 22 September to give you the chance to meet other mature students in Welcome Week. If you would like to attend, please use the form below to sign up by Friday 8 September.

Commuter students

We also have support available for students who don't live in halls of residence in Year 1, and instead commute from a family home or another residence.

We will hold an event at the University on Friday 15 September to give you the chance to meet other commuter students ahead of starting your studies. If you would like to attend, please use the form below to sign up by Friday 1 September.

Welcome booklet

Our Student Coordinators for the peer mentoring scheme have collated all of their best advice in a very helpful Welcome Booklet:

Please note that peer mentoring continues into your clinical education years. You will also be allocated peer mentors in Year 3. Further information will be made available to you towards the end of Year 2.
